The youth mentor program is designed to provide mentors for children in need of extra adult support. Many of the children in the mentor program are currently in an out of home placement or are at home but having difficulty doing well in school or in the community. Mentors provide self-esteem building, recreational opportunities, social skills training, emotional support, guidance and positive role modeling. Mentors are matched with children based on similar interests and the needs of the child. Mentors help children identify their unique strengths and interests and work to positively connect the child to the community. In many cases, the mentors's personal relationship with the child is the catalyst that allows the child to overcome personal challenges and make significant life changes. In 2009, 90% of the children working with our mentors were able to maintain stability at their level of care.
